The construction of an eight-storey reinforced concrete apartment building in Komotini, including the Pilotis ground floor, all structural frames, column and beam systems, floor slabs, and full brick masonry infill. The project was executed to Eurocode 8 seismic design requirements for Seismic Zone II.
The structural system comprises reinforced concrete moment-resisting frames with C25/30 concrete and B500C rebar throughout. Ductility Class Medium (DCM) was applied per Eurocode 8. Column sections range from 40×40cm at upper floors to 55×55cm at lower levels. All masonry infill used 9cm hollow brick with 5cm thermal break insulation at the external leaf. Metal formwork (Peri Trio) was used throughout for formwork efficiency and surface quality.
The constrained urban site in central Komotini required careful tower crane positioning and strict coordination of concrete deliveries within restricted city-centre access hours. Eight floors of simultaneous masonry work on upper levels and structure work on lower levels required meticulous sequencing. Thermal bridge elimination at column/slab junctions was achieved with continuous mineral wool insulation strips.
