Complete roof renewal for a traditional residential property in Thrace. The project involved full replacement of the ageing timber roof structure, waterproofing layer and ceramic tile covering. The client requested the preservation of the traditional aesthetic using high-quality Bavarian F2 tiles.
The existing damaged timber frame was fully replaced with new C24-grade structural timber. A breathable underlay membrane (Sd-value < 0.02m) was installed over the new battens to allow moisture escape while preventing rain ingress. Bavarian F2 ceramic tiles were fixed with stainless steel clips to all rafters. Ridge and hip junctions were detailed with mortar-bedded ridge tiles and lead flashings at all abutments. Roof pitch is 35° throughout.
Working on a traditional occupied property required careful protection of the interior and garden. The full tile and frame removal was completed in a single day to minimise exposure of the structure to weather. Access to the steep roof was managed with a tower scaffold system. The matching of tile colour and profile to the existing street aesthetic was achieved through careful product selection from a specialist Greek manufacturer.
